Mumbai rains
The financial capital came to a standstill. No movement, no hustle bustle any longer! It was the third day when the life in Mumbai was still on a halt. The roads were water logged, traffic jams everywhere, rail traffic slow & flights delayed by hours.
In the last 24 hours, the rainfall recorded has been 240.1 mm as reported by the Meteorological Department, Mumbai. As a token of warning, fishermen have been warned not to go into the waters for the next 1 day as there is a potential danger of high tides, which can be detrimental.
As per the weather forecast, thundershowers in the city and suburbs have been predicted with strong dusty gusty winds.

A landmine explosion in Assam took away the life of Army colonel and his driver. The powerful explosion took place in Sonitpur district, about 200 km from Guwahati where the army vehicle hit the landmine. A massive search operation has been launched and a serious ambush operation is on full spree now. National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has been held responsible for this attack.

The jeep in which the colonel and his driver was there was reduced to countless pieces in this explosion. Both of them died on the spot. However, the other defense personnel who were there in the convoy were saved as they came to a halt after the explosion took place. The jeep of colonel was moving towards the base at Tenga valley in Arunachal Pradesh.

DMC collapses
Monday morning really was a headache for Delhites, who wanted to reach their offices on time but could not. All the credit goes to the Delhi metro construction that collapsed and killed six people and others severely injured.
Traffic in many areas of South Delhi came to a standstill and office-goers had to really juggle a lot to reach their offices. The reports of traffic choking came in from areas like Nehru Place, Greater Kailash, Moolchand, Amar Colony, East of Kailash and Zamrudpur.
Sunday evening witnessed a complete blockade on the roads in South Delhi owing to the traffic diversion that took place as the debris of the collapsed construction was being cleared. The clearing work is expected to be over by Monday evening.

The sequence of killing British soldiers continues in Afghanistan. In a series, these 2 new killed soldier are the 8th and 9th consecutive UK soldiers to have lost their lives. One of them was killed in a deadly explosion while the other one died due to a gunshot injury in separate attacks in Helmond province, Afghanistan.

These soldiers belonged to 4th Battalion The Rifles and Princess of Wale’s Royal Regiment. The death toll of British soldier in Afghanistan has reached the mark of 178 in the last 8 years.
The soldier who has been killed in explosion was on a foot patrol near Nad Ali. However, the other one was killed while on his insurgency dutie near Lashkar Gah.
British defence official declared that the supreme sacrifices of thse soldiers won’t go futile and that their memories will always rule the hearts of other soldiers.

The last homage to the King of Pop was given by thousands of admirers in personal and millions of viewers on the television. The memorial service of pop icon in Los Angeles was witnessed live by 31 million viewers on the TV as claimed by Nielsen Media Research, US.

MJ's final goodbye to the world!
TV channels including ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, Headline News, E!, MTV, VH1, TV Guide Network, and TV ONE telecasted this 2-hour long event. However, the number of viewers that watched this event could not surpass Princess Diana’s funeral that took place in 1997 as was being speculated earlier. Michael Jackson’s world famous persona also could not draw more than 31 million people.
Anyways, MJ took his last exit yesterday. However, he’ll continue to rule millions of hearts across the world.

A great mishap took place when a big fire broke down in a fireworks factory situated in Vadakkampatti yesterday. More than 16 people have lost their lives and around 25 people have received severe burn injuries in this unfortunate incident.

7—8 people died on the spot and the remaining went off to eternal sleep on the way to the hospital. Fire fighters continued battling against this raging fire for more than 4—5 hours and could gain control over the same after prolonged effort. However, the police officials are still clueless about the correct figures of casualties that have taken place. They declared that they’d be able to comment on the casualties only after the fire gets extinguished.
Firefighting became tougher due to the scarcity of water in the proximity of the factory. Children form a major percentage of the people who’ve been gravely injured. The mishap took place in the evening around 7 pm when loud noises of cracker bursting were heard in the vicinity of the factory.

Protest in Srinagar
On the streets of Srinagar, students could be seen all over protesting against the police since one of their friends, a student named Asrar Mushtaq Dar has been missing and there is no information about his whereabouts since July 3, 2009.
The city area witnessed shutdown as a protest against no action being taken by the police in finding the missing youth, who had gone to the gym on Friday and has not retuned home since then.
The 20-year-old Asrar Mushtaq Dar is a student of Islamia College pursuing his degree in commerce. News of some stone-pelting between the protestors and police have also come in.

Brother of Budde Kiran at Hyderabad
Budde Kiran, a 28-year-old Indian software engineer, was murdered by assailants from point blank range in South Africa. The incident took place in Johannesburg where some unidentified men shot this engineer from Warangal and he succumed to bullet injuries yesterday.
Sridhar of Rajahmundry, who was with the victim at that time and also happens to be his roommate, has also received severe injuries in this mishap. He is admitted in the hospital and recovering.
Budde Kiran had been staying in South Africa for more than 2 yers now. He was working on a project with Johannesburg Municipal Corporation. The incident took place when tow unidentified men came into their home forcefully, robbed them of their belongings such as laptop, wrist watches etc. and then shot both Kiran and Sridhar.
As reported, Sridhar requested the assailants to return him his passport and ATM card but these men did not listen and instead fired four rounds at him. It was then that Kiran came to rescue his roommate and he was also shot. However, Kiran managed to inform his friends, who rushed bot of them to the hospital. But Kiran could not survive and took his last breath yesterday.
The Indian governement has granted Rs. 5 lakh to Kiran’s parents and has arranged for his elder brother to travel to SA and bring his brother’s dead body back to India.

The world would halt to pay its last homage to the King of Pop. Thousands of Michael Jackson’s fans are expected to reach Los Angeles and mourn for him. Global media would also be there to cover the world’s biggest event (as expected) . Contrary to speculations, MJ’s family has announced that a private ceremony would take place on Tuesday, which would be followed by a big public memorial service at the Staples Center.

Many celebrities from all around the globe are also expected to arrive in Michael Jackson’s funeral and millions of people across the world would view the funeral on their televisions. Thousands of people are sulking these days as they are not table to accept the death of their music icon, who has kept them entertained for years. Pop queen Maddona also Paid her tribute to MJ and dedicated her performance to the pop icon she adored all her life.
